How Fun is Your Office?

fun in the officeThe Corner Office thinks having fun at work is very important. According to a just published survey by the recruitment group Adecco, 74% of British workers do too! So why are our jobs so boring? It boils down to the current state of the economy – not a huge surprise. When times are tough, businesses buckle down. In an effort to spark some fun on this Friday, here are a few ideas we came up with bring the FUN back to the office.

1. Create a Contest – Maybe it’s about who can lose the most weight in a month, eat the most bacon butties or run to the printer and back. Competition always sparks a good laugh and some banter. The Adecco Group has recently launched a campaign to get offices into the competitive spirit. They are currently sponsoring a contest (headed up by Olympic 110m hurdler Colin Jackson) to film videos of themselves participating in workplace based challenges. For every video uploaded to Facebook, Adecco will donate £20 to Paralympics GB. The best videos will also be entered to win Olympic tickets.

2. Go on a Team Outing – Team outings (especially ones that put people out of their comfort zone) are a good laugh and generally a great idea to bring people together.

3. Happy Hours – While booze and work don’t always mix, it is a chance to get to know your fellow workers as people rather than employees.

4. Singing Contests – The Corner Office is a big fan of this. Make your own rendition of the Friday blues or the accounts payable rap. Get creative – we promise the laughs will come.
